Sussex County Mental Health Board Visits Physicians

May is Mental Health Month, and the Sussex County Board of Mental Health and its Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) have a major project underway. Throughout the month of May and continuing into June, representatives of the Board and its PAC will visit the offices of primary care physicians and pediatricians throughout the County. They will provide each office with a binder, which will include detailed descriptions of specific mental illnesses and literature about the many non-profit resources available in the County for patients in need of mental health treatment and support. Resources to help educate and support the family members of loved ones with mental illness will also be included, such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Saint Clare's Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS).

The binders given to the pediatricians will include information about the New Jersey Children's System of Care for children and adolescents with behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges. That System includes a Care Management Organization (CMO) called Caring Partners of Morris and Sussex, a Family Support Organization (FSO), Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS), and Youth Case Management (YCM).

"This physician outreach project is a wonderful initiative developed by the dedicated members of the Sussex County Mental Health Board and PAC. One of the goals of this project is to provide county residents in need with mental health resources for themselves and their families," said Christine Florio, Sussex County Division of Community and Youth Services. Anyone seeking further information about the project can contact Christine at (973) 948-6000 ext. 1381 or cflorio@sussex.nj.us.
