Homemade Meals for Senior Nutrition Program

The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services is pleased to announce that the Sussex County Homestead now provides homemade meals for the Senior Nutrition Program.

Homemade Meals for Senior Nutrition Program

(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services is pleased to announce that the Sussex County Homestead now provides homemade meals for the Senior Nutrition Program that consists of midday meals served at four senior sites and the Meals on Wheels program for the homebound. Participants will enjoy favorites such as meat loaf, baked ham, veal parmagiana, and barbecued chicken. All meals meet the nutritional standard of 1/3 the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). The menu is published weekly in the Sunday New Jersey Herald.

The Senior Nutrition Program is funded, in part, through the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services under the Older Americans Act and administered by Catholic Family and Community Services. Seniors age 60 + are eligible to participate in the program. Those who wish to enjoy lunch, activities and companionship at senior sites may make a reservation by calling the location they wish to attend by noon the day before to make a reservation. Locations include: Liberty Towers in Newton (973- 579-2120); Hopatcong Civic Center (973-398-9111); Franklin Senior Center (973-827-2973); and Vernon Senior Center (973-764-5454). Eligible seniors may contact Catholic Family and Community Services at 973-209-0123 for additional information or to apply for the Meals on Wheels program. There is a suggested donation of $2 per meal at the senior sites and $4 per home delivered meal ($6 for a two-meal delivery) for those who can afford it. All donations are strictly confidential and voluntary.
