Fall Prevention Awareness Day at Lafayette House
(Newton, NJ) September 20 -26, 2010, has been designated “Fall Prevention Week” in New Jersey. Approximately, one-third of adults age 65 and older fall each year. Close to one-third of falls in older adults result in serious injury such as hip fracture or head injury. The majority of falls in older adults occur in the home. Falls can be prevented. Learn how by joining the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services and state and local officials for Fall Prevention Awareness Day, at the Lafayette House, on Thursday, September 23, 2010, from 9 a.m. -12 p.m. This special event will include the premiere presentation of a brand new HealthEASE educational program entitled “Standing Tall Against Falls.” Also included will be an overview of the award-winning “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls.” Attendees will hear success stories from “graduates” of the eight-week workshop series and have the opportunity to sign-up for future workshops.
