A brand new farmers market building will be opening at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, Plains Road, Augusta, on Saturday, August 15, 2009. One of only a handful of New Jersey farmers markets housed in a permanent building, the new market will offer Jersey Fresh products every Saturday from 10am to 3pm through November (anticipated to open again in March). This building was made possible through Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen's efforts to procure federal funding dedicated toward economic development in Sussex County. The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders elected to make this available to the agricultural community.. The federal funding, plus significant donations of materials and labor, have resulted in a barn style 40'x70' market located near the main entrance to the Fairgrounds. A permanent sign thanking all those contributors will be on display at the market. Only Sussex County farmers will be participating and all products will either be Sussex County grown or Jersey Fresh. Make this your one stop shopping for fresh picked that day vegetables and fruits! Also available will be perennials, cut flowers, dried flowers, eggs, honey, goat milk soap, value added jams, jellies, pickles and more, meat and cheese. When you taste the difference fresh picked makes, you'll definitely make this a regular Saturday stop. For further information, contact Donna Traylor at dtraylor@sussex.nj.us.
