Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Seeks Volunteers
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides a valuable service to Sussex County residents, regardless of age, whose incomes are $50,000 or below. The program, coordinated through the Sussex County Division of Senior Services, provides free assistance in the preparation of basic federal and state income tax forms, tax rebate forms, and Earned Income Tax Credit applications. This service is provided at a multitude of convenient sites throughout the County. Some sites are equipped for e-filing. MaryLou Schnurr, Director of the Division of Senior Services, states, "This year our volunteers assisted over 850 County residents through the VITA program. We could not provide this service without our dedicated volunteers."
Volunteers are needed for the 2009 tax season. The time commitment can be as little as a few hours a week. Training will be provided, in January, by a certified public accountant and an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) representative with respect to current requirements, state and federal forms, and e-filing. The VITA program will be in effect from February 1, 2009 to April 15, 2009. Contact the Sussex County Division of Senior Services at 973-579-0555 ext 1222 or email@example.com to learn more about how you can make a difference in your community by joining this volunteer effort.
