Press Release - Sentencing of Michael Betts

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Michael Betts, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on April 28, 2017.

     Betts, age 41, of Bushkill, PA, was sentenced to five years Probation on condition that he serve 180 days in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility.  He received credit for 52 days already served.  The defendant must also write a letter of apology to each of his victims, undergo a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, undergo random urine monitoring, submit a DNA sample, pay $2792.84 restitution and $157.00 in court fines and fees.

     He pled guilty on February 27, 2017 to three counts of third degree Burglary.

     In November of 2016, the defendant burglarized two different homes in Vernon and one in Frankford, taking various items from the homes including jewelry.

     Betts was represented by Janine Cerra, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Stephanie LaCarrubba.
