Press Release - Indictment of Kyle Werner

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an indictment before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on February 28, 2017, by Kyle Werner.

     Werner, age 27 of Sussex, pled guilty to Burglary, a third degree crime, Unlawful Taking of a Means of Conveyance, a third degree crime, Resisting Arrest, a fourth degree crime, Obstructing Justice, a fourth degree crime, and the motor vehicle offenses of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report, Driving While Suspended and Reckless Driving. 

?     Sentencing is presently anticipated for April 21, 2017.

     In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to entering a Vernon Township auto repair shop without permission and taking a vehicle for a ride on May 29, 2014.  He drove the vehicle into a wooden structure at the Vernon Dairy Queen.  He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot from police.

     The case was investigated by Patrolman Stephen Gentle of the Vernon Township Police Department. 

     Werner was represented by Martin Morrison, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
