Press Release - Sentencing of Thomas J. Scott

Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Thomas J. Scott, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on February 3, 2017.

Scott, age 29, of Hamburg, was sentenced to 90 days in the Sussex County Home Detention Program, a nine (9) month driver’s license suspension and a term of Probation.  He must also complete 300 hours of community service in a hospital environment, enter and successfully complete a driver improvement class, undergo a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, submit a DNA sample, hand write a letter of apology - minimum of 300 words – to the victim and pay $688.00 in court fines and fees.

     He pled guilty on December 19, 2016 to Assault by Auto, a crime of the fourth degree.

     In June of 2016 the defendant was driving recklessly and crossed over the double yellow lines on Route 23 in Franklin, causing a motor vehicle accident, where the driver of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries from the crash.

     Scott was represented by Peter Gilbreth, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
