Child Abuse Prevention Month Schedule of Events

   

 

The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders has declared April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

 

     

4/3/07: Clothesline Project at Sussex County Community College.  Contact Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Services Inc. (DASI) for more information: 973-579-2386.

   

4/5/07: Free Workshop at Sussex County Community College , “Born Learning”.  This workshop will give an overview of the “Born Learning” initiative which was developed by the United Way to teach parents ways to connect with their children and create everyday learning opportunities.  Workshop will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm in room D105B.  Contact the Sussex County Division of Community & Youth Services for more information: 973-579-0570 or go to www.bornlearning.org.   

   

4/12/07: Free Workshop at Sussex County Community College , “Child and Infant Safety”.  This workshop will highlight everyday ways to protect children from harm, including an overview of the NJ Safe Haven law, Pool and Spa Safety, “Safe Sleep”, “Not Even For a Minute” and preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome.  Workshop will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm in room D105B.  Contact the Sussex County Division of Community & Youth Services for more information: 973-579-0570. 

   

4/17/07: Free Workshop at Sussex County Community College , “Keep K.I.D.S. Safe”.  This workshop will teach members of the community how to recognize when a child is at risk of harm, how to tell the difference between inappropriate discipline and child abuse, effective and safe ways to intervene, and when, where and whom to call for help.  Workshop will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm in room D105B.  Contact the Sussex County Division of Community & Youth Services for more information: 973-579-0570. 

   

4/24/07: Free Workshop at Sussex County Community College , “Darkness To Light”.  This workshop will teach adults the “Seven Steps to Protecting Our Children”.  Workshop will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm in room D105B.  Contact the Sussex County Division of Community & Youth Services for more information: 973-579-0570 or go to www.darkness2light.org. 

   

5/1/07: 3rd Annual Project Self-Sufficiency Parent Fair at Hillside Park , Andover NJ from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.  This fair will provide mothers and fathers with engaging, interactive educational experiences designed to help them to be the parents they can be.  Topics will include Stress Management, Nutrition and Childhood Obesity, Internet Safety for Children and Adults, Infant Massage, Making Homework Fun and “Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Dealing With Your Child’s School But Were Afraid To Ask”.  There will also be a keynote speaker on the topic of “Thinking Differently About Discipline”.  Free to families who are participants in any Project Self-Sufficiency program and families referred by a Sussex County human service agency.  Dinner and goodie bags filled with resources for parents are included!   RESERVATIONS ARE FREE BUT REQUIRED.  Contact Project Self-Sufficiency for more information: 973-383-5129.
