     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Jason Verkaik, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on June 16, 2017.

 

     Verkaik, age 28 of Franklin, NJ, was sentenced to one (1) year of probation and twenty (20) hours of community service.  Verkaik was also ordered to have no contact with his victim and pay mandatory fines and fees. 

 

     Verkaik pled guilty on May 1, 2017 to Harassment, a petty disorderly persons offense. 

 

     On January 23, 2017, Verkaik was arrested for Harassment and Stalking after sending threatening messages to his friend’s ex-girlfriend via Facebook.   

 

     Verkaik was represented by Erik Hassing, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent Rafuse.
