Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an indictment before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on April 3, 2017, by Melanie Powell also known as Melanie Castro.
Powell, age 27 of Sheldrake, New York, pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third degree crime, and Hindering Apprehension, a fourth degree crime. Sentencing is presently anticipated for May 19, 2017.
In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to possessing heroin and to providing her maiden name to avoid arrest based on an arrest warrant in her married name in Lafayette Township in July 2015.
The case was investigated by Tpr. D. Rubino of the New Jersey State Police.
Powell was represented by Steven Insley, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
