Press Release - Sentencing of Daniel Meshefsky

PRESS RELEASE


December 5, 2016

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Daniel Meshefsky, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on December 2, 2016.

     Meshefsky, age 45 of Lake Hopatcong, was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison.  He was ordered to pay restitution of $8,975.69.

     He pled guilty on October 24, 2016, to three counts of Issuing a Bad Check, a third degree crime, Theft by Deception, a third degree crime, and Issuing a Bad Check and Theft by Deception, both fourth degree crimes.

     The defendant admitted to issuing checks to businesses in Stanhope, Byram and Ogdensburg to purchase items knowing that the checks would not clear.  The defendant failed to make good on any of the bad checks and failed to return the items to two of the three businesses.

     Meshefsky was represented by John Brady, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Seana Pappas.
