Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of guilty pleas to accusations before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on October 24, 2016, by Daniel Meshefsky.
Meshefsky, age 45 of Hopatcong, pled guilty to three counts of Bad Check, a third degree crime, to Bad Check, a fourth degree crime, to Theft by Deception, a third degree crime, and to Theft by Deception, a fourth degree crime. Sentencing is presently anticipated for December 2, 2016.
In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to issuing checks to businesses in Stanhope, Byram and Ogdensburg to purchase items knowing that the checks would not clear. The defendant failed to make good on any of the bad checks and failed to return the items to two of the three businesses.
The cases were investigated by Detective Joseph Johnson of the Stanhope Police Department, Sergeant Joseph SanFilippo of the Ogdensburg Police Department, and Detective Robert Tierney of the Byram Police Department.
Meshefsky was represented by John Brady, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
