Press Release - Plea of William E. Bartell, Jr.

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an accusation before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on May 16, 2016, by William E. Bartell, Jr.

     Bartell, age 31 of Hopatcong, pled guilty to Eluding, a third degree crime, and to the motor vehicle offense of Driving While Intoxicated.  Sentencing is presently anticipated for July 29, 2016.

     On March 28, 2016, a New Jersey State Police car was nearly struck head-on by the defendant’s vehicle.  In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to driving while under the influence of alcohol and to not stopping when the trooper activated the overhead lights signaling him to stop.

     The case was investigated by Trooper B.J. Ackerman of the New Jersey State Police.

     Bartell was represented by Steven Insley, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
