Press Release - Sentencing of Waldimir Maldonado

Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Waldimir Maldonado, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on April 15, 2016.
Maldonado, age 38, of Pleasant Valley, New York, was sentenced to four (4) years New Jersey State Prison and must pay $16,127.50 restitution to the victim.
He pled guilty on February 29, 2016, to third degree Theft.
In June of 2013 the defendant entered Michael’s Jewelers in Franklin pretending to be a prospective customer. While the staff was putting jewelry away for the night he grabbed a bag of jewelry and fled the store.
Maldonado was represented by Janine Cerra, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
