Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an accusation before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on April 5, 2016, by Matthew Davala.
Davala, age 29 of Highland Lakes, pled guilty to Conspiracy, a third degree crime, and three counts of Theft, third degree crimes. Sentencing is presently anticipated for May 27, 2016.
In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to conspiring and agreeing to participate and actually committing with his co-defendant taking money during a staged robbery from the Vernon Lukoil on October 18, 2015. The defendant also admitted to taking jewelry from his parents’ residence on December 3, 2015. These cases were investigated by Detective K. Curry of the Vernon Township Police Department.
Davala also admitted to taking cash and checks from his employer on September 20, 2015. This case was investigated by Trooper McGarrity of the New Jersey State Police.
Davala was represented by Steven Insley, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
