Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an indictment before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on March 14, 2016, by Jason Heafy.
Heafy, age 29 of Belvidere, pled guilty to two counts of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, third degree crimes; Hindering Apprehension, a fourth degree crime; Joyriding, a fourth degree crime; and the motor vehicle offense of No Insurance Coverage. Sentencing is presently anticipated for April 29, 2016.
On April 4, 2015, Heafy was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Heafy admitted being in possession of heroin and discarding same prior to the arrival of police at the scene of the accident. Heafy also admitted to taking his father’s vehicle on April 7, 2015, without his father’s permission and to being in possession of heroin on that date.
The case was investigated by Officers G. Laoudis, M. Haggerty and M. Puccio of the Andover Township Police Department.
