Fire Marshal Appointments

Upon the recommendation of the Sussex County Firemen's Association, the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently appointed Virgil Rome Jr. to the position of Sussex County Fire Marshal.

Fire Marshal Appointments

Upon the recommendation of the Sussex County Firemen's Association, the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently appointed Virgil Rome Jr. to the position of Sussex County Fire Marshal as well as James Raperto Sr. and John Luba to the positions of Assistant Fire Marshals from January 15, 2016 through January 14, 2017.

Virgil Rome is a Past Chief of Fredon Fire Company. James Raperto is a Past Chief of Franklin Fire Department and John Luba is a Lieutenant with Sparta Fire Department.

The County Fire Marshals perform fire safety inspections of all County-owned and/or leased facilities as required by the State of New Jersey Fire Safety Code 5:71-2.2(T). The County Fire Marshal is the Local Enforcing Agency (LEA) Fire Official as designated by County Resolution adopted on the 13th day of August, 1985. The Fire Marshals must be Certified Fire Officials listed by the State of New Jersey Division of Fire Safety. The Fire Marshals also act as the LEA's through Shared Service agreements between the County of Sussex and Andover Township, Franklin, Fredon, Newton, Stanhope and Stillwater.

These gentlemen have also been appointed to the positions of Sussex County Fire Coordinators upon the recommendation of the Sussex County Fire Chiefs Association to Sussex County OEM Coordinator/Sheriff Michael Strada and have been confirmed in those positions by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety.
