"Dreaming in our Golden Years"
A Presentation on Dream Interpretation
(Newton, NJ) The Senior Life Center at S.C.C.C., a collaboration between the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services and Sussex County Community College, cordially invite you to attend a FREE presentation on dream interpretation entitled, "Dreaming in our Golden Years." This informative event will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Sussex County Community College, One College Hill, in the Performing Arts Center Atrium, One College Hill, Newton, NJ. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.
The "Dreaming in our Golden Years" presentation will explain what Freud termed the "language" of dreams, and will enable attendees to interpret their own dreams, as no one can do better than dreamers themselves. The session will also include the process of keeping a dream diary and an overview of important dream factors. Most importantly, it will include a discussion of how dreams function when we are senior citizens and an explanation about the themes and therapeutic value of dreams. There will also be plenty of time for answering questions.
Dr. Ancona, D.Med.Hm., D.Arts, is the author of The Power of Dreams: A History of Healing Body, Mind, and Soul, an academic study of how dreams are, "the most misunderstood necessity of life," as well as a key to human development, including how dreams affect physical, mental, and spiritual health. While much of the field of dream studies is compartmentalized into tight categories, Dr. Ancona prefers to look at dreams holistically, including historical and interdisciplinary aspects.
Dr. Ancona has been teaching about dreams for more than 20 years, conducting workshops throughout the state, and has taught an array of dream and mythology courses at Sussex County Community College, where he is a professor of English. Dr. Ancona is trained in psychoanalysis at both Drew and in a joint Centenary/Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis Masters program. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Dreams.
