Primary Election is June 4
The Sussex County Clerk's Office will again offer early voting for the June 4 Primary. Vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots are currently available by filling out an application and returning it to the Clerk's office. Mailed applications for VBM ballots must be received by the Clerk no later than Tuesday, May 28. After that date, voters can come into the County Clerk's Office and vote in-person up to 3 p.m. Monday, June 3. Applications can be downloaded from the Clerk's website at www.sussexcountyclerk.org or picked up in person from the Clerk's Office at 83 Spring St., Suite 304, in Newton.
The last day to register to vote for the June Primary is May 14. Unaffiliated voters can choose to align themselves with one of the two major parties by voting in that party's primary.
On the county level, Sussex County Sheriff Michael Strada is running unopposed in the Republican Primary, with no candidates running on the Democratic ticket. Republicans will choose a Surrogate between former Assemblyman Gary Chiusano and Newton attorney Alicia Ferrante. One of the two will move on to the General Election in November. Chiusano currently holds the position of Surrogate after being nominated to the position by Governor Chris Christie following the resignation of Nancy Fitzgibbons.
The Republican Freeholder race includes four candidates for two positions: incumbents Richard Vohden and George Graham, as well as former Frankford Township Mayor Gary Larson and former Newton Mayor Helen Wilson LeFrois. Graham defeated LeFrois in a vote at the GOP Convention for the vacated seat previously held by Parker Space, who took Chiusano's seat in the Assembly.
There are races for Republican State Committee seats as well, with Richard Shaftan and Parker Space vying for the Male Member seat, and Jill Space and Deborah DeLuca vying for the Female Member seat. The two Democratic candidates running for Democratic State Committee, Bradford Lewis and Leslie Huhn, are running unopposed.
"We congratulate all the candidates for participating in the democratic process," said County Clerk Jeffrey Parrott.
A complete list of candidates running for state, county and municipal offices is available at http://sussexcountyclerk.org/elections/.
Preliminary election results will be posted on the Clerk's website the night of the election at approximately 10:30 p.m.
