PARKER SPACE AND RICHARD VOHDEN TO LEAD SUSSEX COUNTY BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS IN 2013

The Sussex County Historic Court House in Newton was the setting for the Annual Reorganization Meeting of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders on Friday, January 4, 2013. Highlights of this year's Reorganization were the appointments of Parker Space and Richard Vohden to serve as Director and Deputy Director, respectively, of the Freeholder Board in 2013. Director Space and Deputy Director Vohden were sworn in by the Honorable Frederic G. Weber.

Parker Space was appointed to the Freeholder Board in June 2010, replacing former Freeholder Hal Wirths after he was appointed Commissioner of the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Director Space was elected to a three year term in November 2010. He is President of Space Farms, a family-owned zoo and museum located in the Beemerville section of Wantage Township. Director Space resides in Wantage Township with his wife Jill and their three children.

Richard A. Vohden, elected to a three year term in November 2010, will begin his third year on the Freeholder Board. Deputy Director Vohden, a full-time farmer for the past 19 years, is the owner of Pequest Valley Farms in Green Township where he resides with his wife Faith.

Re-elected in 2011, Phillip R. Crabb is returning to the Board to begin the second year of his term. Freeholder Crabb is employed by Pfizer and lives in Franklin Borough with his wife Sally and their three children.

Joining the 2013 Freeholder Board are Gail Phoebus and Dennis Mudrick. Elected to the Board in November 2012, they are replacing Susan Zellman, who retired, and Richard Zeoli, who chose not to seek re-election.

Gail Phoebus, a native of Sussex County, lives in Andover Township with her husband Bob and has two daughters. Freeholder Phoebus is the owner of the Farmstead Golf and Country Club. She is a former member of the Andover Township Committee, where she also served as Mayor.

Dennis Mudrick resides in Sparta Township with his wife Pam and their three sons. Freeholder Mudrick is employed by the Vernon Township Board of Education where he currently serves as the building principal of Cedar Mountain Primary School.

In closing, Freeholder Director Space stated, "The Freeholder Board stands committed to the residents of Sussex County and will continue to support the Board's ongoing mission to preserve the optimum quality of life and public services its residents expect and deserve from their County Government. While financial challenges may play a critical role in key issues, any decisions made by this Board in 2013 will remain foremost in the best interests of the taxpayers of Sussex County."

Regular meetings of the Board of Chosen Freeholders are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (unless otherwise noticed) at 5:00 p.m., in the Freeholder Meeting Room, Sussex County Administrative Center, One Spring Street, Newton, New Jersey. The public is invited to attend.
