You Belong @ Your Library
National Library Week is April 8 through 14, and it's a great time to learn more about all the wonderful services available through the Sussex County Library System (SCLS).
Your library card gets you access to materials at all six SCLS branches (Frankford, Franklin, Hopatcong, Newton, Vernon and Wantage), plus open borrowing privileges in Sparta and over 150 other libraries throughout Northern New Jersey.
The thousands of books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and videogames available are just the beginning. Is genealogy your thing? All SCLS computers provide free, unrestricted access to Ancestry.com, and the Main Library in Frankford houses a large collection of local genealogical and historical information. Looking for a job? The Career Transitions website can help you. Need to improve your skills first? Log onto the Learning Express Library for self-paced tutorials on popular computer packages, take practice civil service exams, prepare for the GED and so much more.
You Belong @ Your Library is the theme for National Library Week and it couldn't be more true. Libraries are dynamic, ever-evolving organizations that work hard to keep up with the needs and desires of their patrons. Some people may think printed books are a thing of the past, and for you we have downloadable audio for your iPod or MP3, and e-books that download directly to your home computer or e-reader.
Sussexcountylibrary.org is the place to begin
All SCLS resources, from downloading e-books to registering for story hour, are available through our website, www.sussexcountylibrary.org. It is your gateway for the most basic information from library hours and locations, to searching the collection, to accessing our wide variety of databases that can help you find out everything from how many types of mammals live in the Brazilian rain forest (EBSCO Animals) to how to fix your car (Chilton Auto Repair Reference Center). Much of the content has been optimized for mobile devices through m.sussexcountylibrary.org.
Applying for a library card
SCLS library cards are free to all Sussex County residents (except Sparta) and to non-residents who work in Sussex County. Just stop by your local branch with identification showing your Sussex County address or a paycheck stub listing your local employer, complete the application and your card will be issued immediately. An application is also available online, and the card can be mailed to you, but identification will be required the first time you come into a library to use the card. Non-resident, non-employees who do not have access to our collections through Open Borrowing can get a card for a $25.00 yearly fee.
