Sussex County Receives WIB Grant for Needs Based Transportation
The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Social Services and Skylands Ride received a grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor through the Morris/Sussex/Warren Workforce Investment Board in the amount of $50,000 for Needs Based Transportation services to WorkFirst New Jersey recipients.
The majority of funding will be used to support Sussex County Skylands Ride’s JARC (Job Access:Reverse Commute) program, which provides demand response transportation services to and from work and work-related activities for low income individuals and families, as well as public assistance recipients. The JARC program in Sussex County served over 15,770 rides in 2010 for working individuals. This program has enabled many of these individuals to maintain jobs they would have been in jeopardy of losing due to lack of transportation.
The remaining portion of the funds will be used to provide transportation supports to individuals who have access to their own transportation to get to and from their jobs but need assistance with such things as insurance, car repairs, car registrations or other transportation-related expenses.
Sussex County appreciates this opportunity to support work activities for its most vulnerable working population to empower them to keep their jobs and continue to be a productive part of the Sussex County community.
