“Keeping Your Mind Sharp” FREE Memory Screenings
(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Division of Senior Services and Newton Memorial Hospitalwill be acknowledging National Memory Screening Day, Tuesday, November 17, 2009, by offering seniors a one hour educational program, “Keeping your Mind Sharp,” in conjunction with FREE Memory Screenings performed by a qualified health care professional. The event will take place at Liberty Towers, 32 Liberty Street, Newton, NJ. Memory screenings will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. “Keeping your Mind Sharp” will be presented at 10:45 a.m. for the convenience of those who would like to attend before or after their memory screenings.
An initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), National Memory Screening Day is designed to promote detection of memory problems and provide education about successful aging. The face-to-face, noninvasive screening takes only about five to ten minutes and consists of a series of questions and tasks.
AFA encourages screenings for adults who have memory concerns, a family history of Alzheimer’s disease or who want to check their memory now to have the results available for future comparison. The results do not represent a diagnosis, and AFA advises those individuals who score poorly or who have normal scores but are still concerned to follow-up with their physician or another qualified healthcare professional. Results of the Memory Screening are strictly confidential.
