Seniors Urged to Support Social Services Food Pantry at
Healthy Living Festival
(Hardyston, NJ) The Division of Senior Services is hosting a food drive at its Healthy Living Festival on Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., to help stock the food pantry at the Sussex County Division of Social Services. Those who drop off non-perishable food items at the Healthy Living Festival will have their names entered into a drawing for a $50.00 Walmart gift card.
Suggested food donations include non-perishable milk, juice, tuna, meals in a can (spaghetti-o’s, stew, etc.) hearty soup, peanut butter & jelly, granola bars, crackers, cereal, macaroni and cheese, pasta and sauce. Canned food with pop-tops is appreciated as many people do not have access to a can opener. Personal items such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc. are always needed as well.
Thousands of Sussex County residents visit Social Services each year. This year in particular, Social Services has experienced difficulty in keeping the food pantry’s shelves stocked. The Social Services Food Pantry operates primarily on donations. Please contact the Division of Social Services directly at 973-383-3600 if you wish to make a monetary donation. Cash cannot be accepted at the Healthy Living Festival. Monetary donations are mainly used to buy essential food items such as milk for small children. Food and cash donations help to feed our families, the home-bound and other individuals who would go hungry without this assistance.
Anyone in need of food for themselves or their family can stop by the Division of Social Services, 83 Spring Street, Newton, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary. Food donations are accepted during these hours or special arrangements can be made for after hour donations.
