Office of Mosquito Control urges homeowners to maintain their pools
Release Date: May 21, 2009

For Immediate Release:

As the 2009 mosquito season commences, the Sussex County Office of Mosquito Control has begun to inspect and to treat known mosquito habitats throughout the county.

In light of recent economic hardships and housing foreclosures throughout the county, many pools, both in-ground and above ground, are not being properly maintained, and they are increasingly becoming prime mosquito breeding habitats.

The Office of Mosquito Control urges homeowners to maintain their pools throughout the upcoming summer season, or to close their pool if it is not going to be in use.

If there are pools within your community that are either abandoned or poorly maintained, please contact the Sussex County Office of Mosquito Control. An inspector will go to the property, inspect the site, and treat the area if mosquitoes are present; treating the area includes a variety of methods including the use of mosquito eating fish, which reduces the amount of pesticides used.

Please contact the Office of Mosquito Control at (973) 948-4545, or email the Office of Mosquito Control at scmcd@sussex.nj.us.
