Mobile Food Stamp Outreach Event Is A Success Release Date: April 27, 2009
Mobile Food Stamp Outreach Event is a Success
The Essex County Mobile Citizen Services Office was in the Newton and Franklin Shop-Rite parking lots on April 20 and April 28, 2009, respectively, to provide availability to certain services offered through the Sussex County Divisions of Social Services and Senior Services.
The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Divisions of Social Services and Senior Services' staff worked from the Essex County state-of-the-art mobile office to assist residents in applying for Food Stamps and other social services for which they may be eligible. The outreach vehicle is the size of a bus and is outfitted with a waiting room and three private offices, so clients can be served in a confidential and professional manner. The mobile office is wheelchair accessible and is equipped with a wireless internet connection and a fax machine, so applications can be processed on site.
The current economic crisis has generated an increase in the number of clients in need of Food Stamps. Rising costs for gas, food and the general overall cost of living are making it difficult for families to meet their basic needs. Utilizing the Food Stamp Program is an excellent way to extend a budget and help individuals and families to have more nutritious meals.
The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Divisions of Social Services and Senior Services would like to thank Shop-Rite, Wakefern Foods, Essex County Division of Welfare, the County Welfare Director's Association and the New Jersey Anti-Hunger Coalition. These organizations joined together to bring Food Stamp awareness and availability to residents in the community, who may be eligible to receive nutrition assistance through the Food Stamp Program.
Special thanks to Ken O'Brien and WNNJ for their promotion of these events, which was instrumental in the success of the events. WNNJ is to be commended for their continuing dedication to eradicating hunger in Sussex County.
