Sussex County Says Thank You to their Valuable Volunteers

The morning of Thursday, December 4, 2008 the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, along with the County Administrator and the Department of Human Services Administrator spent their time thanking the numerous volunteers who so graciously give of their time, talent and efforts into making Sussex County a better and healthier place to live. An event recognizing Sussex County volunteers was held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Farmstead Golf & Country Club in Lafayette. 96 people were in attendance; a multitude of County boards ranging from the Sussex County Planning Board to the Human Services Advisory Council to the Open Space Committee to the 9-1-1 Telecommunications Working Group, amongst many others was represented. All of these dedicated volunteers serve on a County board or committee or volunteer for County sponsored activities because they are interested in the well-being of the citizens in this community.

Freeholder Director, Hal Wirths welcomed everyone to this event and Department of Human Services Administrator Steve Gruchacz introduced the keynote speaker, Arline Oberst, co-author of "Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul." Arline filled the audience with meaningful, uplifting stories about volunteers and the power and importance of volunteering and helping others. Freeholder and Human Services Liaison Susan Zellman ended the event with reminding the volunteers how much of a vital piece they are to the success of County government and the invaluable time and resources they devote to Sussex County. Susan expressed how the Board of Chosen Freeholders is looking forward to working with all of the wonderful volunteers in 2009.
