Sussex County Library: An Array of Outstanding Services for Patrons of All Ages

The Sussex County Library is busier than ever. In 2008, the library circulated more than 887,000 items - an all-time high! And in 2009, the library's circulation is up more than 11 percent. The library encourages all residents to come into the library and take advantage of its array of outstanding services. If you do not have a library card (free to Sussex County residents), come in during National Library Week (April 12th- 18th), sign up for a card, and discover the library's vast resources.

Since 1941, the library has served the residents of the county. The library is dedicated to meeting the needs of its patrons, especially in this difficult economic time.

Here is a selection of library's services and programs:

DVDs - Popular movies at no charge. These movies can be taken out for one week.

CDs - The latest music in all genres - from current stars to classical music.

Video games - In 2008, the library began purchasing games for Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and Wii. The games can be borrowed for free and circulate for one week.

Internet access - The library has stations for public use, as well as wireless access for those patrons with laptop computers.

Audio books - The library has a collection of audio books on CD and cassette.

Downloadable audio books - The library has a collection of audio books that can be downloaded from a home computer and can be listened to on iPods and other equipment.

Youth Services - Diane Sebastian, the library's professional Youth Services Librarian, has created wonderful programs for children and teenagers. This year's Summer Reading Program, under Diane's direction, will be bigger and better than ever.

Library's Webpage - The homepage (www.sussexcountylibrary.org) for the library offers many services available directly from your home: the library's catalog where you can reserve books with your library card; databases in different areas of interest; adult and youth services program listings; downloading audio books; and many other features.

Regional Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing - The library can loan out different equipment to help patrons who have hearing loss. The library has a TTY for deaf individuals. The TTY number is 973-948-6002.

JAWS - This unique software will allow blind patrons to use the Internet. To set up an appointment for training, please call 877-447-6500, ext. 227.

Books - Bestsellers, reference, local history, children - and many other areas. The library has a vast collection of books that will satisfy readers of all ages.

Hours - Three of the libraries (Dorothy Henry, Sussex-Wantage, and the Main Library) are opened all day (9 - 5) on Saturdays. Additionally, each library has at least one night per week when it's opened until 8:30 PM. And all of the libraries are opened Monday thru Saturday (hours vary at each library).

The library will continue to offer the services and programs that patrons need and enjoy. For more information, please call the library located nearest to you or, if you're not sure which one it is, call the Main Library at 973-948-3660.
