Get Smart About Antibiotics Week is November 12-18, 2012
Release Date: November 01, 2012

The problem of antibiotic resistance by bacteria or other microbes has become a common clinical problem and a serious public health concern.

Get Smart About Antibiotics Week is November 12-18, 2012

According to the CDC, "Get Smart About Antibiotics Week has been an annual effort since 2008 to coordinate the work of CDC's Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work campaign, state-based appropriate antibiotic use campaigns, non-profit partners, and for-profit partners during a one week observance of antibiotic resistance and the importance of appropriate antibiotic use."

Take the quiz!

The problem of antibiotic resistance by bacteria or other microbes has become a common clinical problem and a serious public health concern. Nearly each type of bacteria is less resistant to antibiotic treatment options, making it harder to treat certain illnesses. The frequent and improper use of antibiotics supports the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The CDC claims that every time a person takes antibiotics, sensitive bacteria are killed, but resistant germs may be left to grow and multiply, increasing the occurrence of drug-resistant bacteria. Get Smart About Antibiotics Week campaign aims to reduce the rate of rise of antibiotic resistance.
