Volunteers Sought for Senior Health Promotion Initiatives
(Newton, NJ)             The Sussex County Division of Senior Services is currently seeking volunteer leaders for some of its “Project Healthy Living” initiatives.   An informational session for interested parties will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., at the Sussex County Main Library, which is located at 125 Morris Turnpike, Frankford Township. Opportunities include: Volunteer Coach for “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls” an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls; Volunteer leader for “Healthy Bones” an osteoporosis prevention exercise and education program; and Peer Leader for “Take Control of Your Health” an empowering program that helps participants manage the issues related to chronic conditions.   The informational session will include an overview of each program, review of the leadership criteria, reporting requirements and time commitment for each program.   Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of current volunteer leaders and program participants.
There are also volunteer opportunities for those who are interested in coordination of the programs rather than the hands-on involvement. Duties include scheduling sessions, coordinating leader assignments, assembling training materials, data collection and reporting. Contact the Division of Senior Services at 973-579-0555, or seniorservices@sussex.nj.us, to register for this informative program.
