Press Release - Sentencing of Jason Reis

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Jason Reis, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on July 14, 2017.
     Reis, age 29 of Budd Lake, was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with credit for 134 days of time served, and three years of probation consecutive to a Morris County sentence.  His driver license was ordered suspended for ten years. He was ordered to submit to a TASC evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made from same, submit a DNA sample at his own expense, install Interlock for the duration of his driver license suspension and two years thereafter, pay restitution of $25.00, and pay fines and fees totaling $2,294.00. 
     He pled guilty on June 8, 2017, to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third degree crime, four counts of Assault by Auto, a fourth degree crime, and Driving While Intoxicated (third offense) and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, both motor vehicle offenses.
     In Hopatcong on December 9, 2016, he struck the rear of a vehicle occupied by three individuals pushing it into a vehicle occupied by a single occupant causing pain to all victims and then left the scene.  When his motor vehicle was stopped by Ptl. D. Kern, the defendant was found to be under the influence and in possession of Buprenorphine and Clonazepam. 
     Reis was represented by Steven Insley, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Shaina Brenner.
