Elaine A. Morgan Retires After 23 years as Clerk of the Board of Chosen Freeholders

Sussex County Government will now be without a long-time familiar face. Elaine Morgan, who has served as Clerk of the Board of Chosen Freeholders for the past 23 years has retired, effective July 1. Joe, her husband of 43 years, three children, and five grandchildren were the inspiration behind her decision to begin enjoying the finer things in life - number one being able to spend more time with her family.

Elaine began her career with the County in September, 1987, working in what was then the Office of Economic Development, in the former Department of Planning. Transferring to the Clerk of the Board's Office, she became Deputy Clerk of the Board in 1990, and was appointed Clerk in 1991 when the position became vacant. Since then, Elaine has been a steadfast figure in the office, having worked with 23 different Freeholders during her tenure as Clerk of the Board.

A dedicated public employee who has always performed her duties above and beyond the requirements of the position, Elaine set the high standards for quantity of work, while never sacrificing the quality of work the Clerk of the Board's Office has been credited for the past 23 years. Elaine was not the Clerk of the Board in title only, but a hands-on working Clerk who contributed not just by her presence at Freeholder Meetings, but through her knowledge of office procedures, clerical skills, and ability to pitch in and provide back-up coverage for the office, whether it be typing, answering the phones, or assisting a resident with a question. More importantly, the one thing that will leave a gaping hole is her expertise in Resolutions, Ordinances, and Agreements. Elaine's dedication to the County, knowledge, and easy going demeanor has earned her the respect of her fellow co-workers, as well as government officials throughout the County and State.

Elaine's commitment to the position of Clerk of the Board and her allegiance to the members of the Freeholder Board, as well as the integrity she instilled in the Clerk of the Board's Office during her term will be greatly missed.
