Sussex County Human Services Advisory Council to Host "Maintaining Home Ownership in Sussex County" Presentation

(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Human Services Advisory Council (HSAC) will host a "Maintaining Home Ownership in Sussex County" presentation, on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 9:00 a.m., at Project Self-Sufficiency, 127 Mill Street, Building 3, Newton, NJ. The HSAC meeting is open to the public, and anyone interested in attending this presentation is encouraged to attend.

Chris Brogan, Foreclosure Intervention Specialist, will be the presenter. He will be representing the Housing Partnership, a HUD-certified counseling agency for mortgage delinquency and default resolution. Mr. Brogan will explain how to maintain home ownership by prevention or intervention. The agency operates a free intervention program, which offers confidential one-on-one counseling to determine the status of a homeowner's mortgage delinquency, to create and review the household budget and credit report, to work with both a loan servicer and the homeowner to research options to avoid foreclosure and to, ultimately, prepare an individualized action plan for the homeowner.

One of the expected goals in offering this initial presentation to the community is to work with Housing Partnership, along with other partners, to develop a program for Sussex County homeowners or prospective homeowners that feature education on the prevention of foreclosure, as well as intervention options in order to avoid a foreclosure. We anticipate that this program will be available to Sussex County homeowners in May 2015. There are options for families and individuals to work with a third party to create modification packages to be presented to banks and servicers that could be beneficial to all parties.
