Please review the following message from Alan Talarsky, Environmental Scientist 1, Food and Drug Safety Program, DHSS, concerning the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Class 1 Recall of one type of Oscar Mayer brand bacon.

Kraft Foods Global, Inc., a Kirksville, Mo., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 1,800 pounds of bacon due to insufficient cooling during processing according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The following product is subject to recall:

. 12-ounce packages of "OSCAR MAYER 30% LOWER FAT, CENTER CUT BACON." Each label bears the establishment number "EST. 537V" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each package also bears a "best when used by of 24 May 2007 A." A photo of this product is attached above.

The bacon was produced on Feb. 11, 2007 and was shipped to a distribution center in California. It is possible that this product may have been further distributed in New Jersey. The problem was discovered by the company. No reports of illnesses have been received by FSIS or the company from consumption of this product.

No action is being requested of local health agencies at this time for this recall. If any requests for assistance are received from the FDA, the Food and Drug Safety Program will contact you.
