Please review the following message and attachment from Alan Talarsky, Environmental Scientist 1, Food and Drug Safety Program, DHSS, concerning the Washington State Department of Health's Class 1 Recall of shellfish originating from the Penn Cove Growing Area in Washington State on November 1, 2006 due to a sewer spill. The WA Department of Health was notified of the sewer spill and immediately coordinated the product recall from all active growers in the area. The only licensed grower active at the time of the spill is as follows:

Name: Penn Cove Shellfish LLC
Address: 1900 Penn Cove Road
Coupeville, WA 98239
Growing Area: Penn Cove
Dealer Certification Number: WA-0337-SS
Harvest Dates: November 1, 2, & 3, 2006

It is known that shellfish harvested on November 1, 2006 and shipped November 2, 2006 was distributed to one retail food establishment in Princeton, New Jersey. If any other establishments are identified, the Food and Drug Safety Program will contact the appropriate local health departments for follow-up.

If you have questions concerning this particular recall, please contact Calliope Alexander, Seafood and Shellfish Coordinator, Food and Drug Safety Program at 609-588-3122, or by e-mail at calliope.alexander@doh.state.nj.us.

Archway Cookies LLC, a Battle Creek, MI company, is voluntarily recalling approximately 633 packages of only the 13.75oz Classic Oatmeal Big Batch Homestyle Cookies® because a small number of those packages may not indicate the presence of an undeclared allergen (tree nuts, especially walnuts). Some of the cookies subject to recall contain tree nuts (walnuts), but the product labels indicate only that the products may contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts as part of the cookies' ingredient mixture. Persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of possible allergic reactions if they consume these cookies.

The cookies subject to recall are Archway Classic Big Batch Homestyle Cookies®. Each package bears the date code "Best Before Jan 11 07 AX." The cookies were packaged on October 19, 2006 and were distributed to retail stores in the eastern half of the United States, specifically in states east of the Mississippi River, possibly including New Jersey.

No action is being requested of local health agencies at this time. If any requests for assistance are received from the FDA, the Food and Drug Safety Program will contact you.
