Sussex County Freeholders Enter into Agreement with Civil Solutions, Inc.

For the Development of GIS-based Electronic Property Parcels

NEWTON, NJ - Under the NJ State Contract, the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders has entered into an agreement with Civil Solutions, Inc., for development of GIS-based electronic property parcels for 13 municipalities within Sussex County.  Along with the property parcels developed by the New Jersey Highlands Council and individual municipal efforts, the County of Sussex will have a complete inventory of all properties within the County.

This data will provide the foundation for the County’s enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS), which allows county and local governments to perform government functions in a more efficient and less time-consuming manner.  The parcel data can be utilized by various County Divisions, such as Division of Planning for open space planning and acquisition; the Division of Health for hazardous material (HazMat) emergency response; site selection for the County’s Vision 2020/Economic Development Partnership; the County Prosecutor’s Office for critical infrastructure as well as Megan’s Law notifications; and use by various other County agencies to support a countywide records management program.  In addition to county and local governments, select information is available to the public through Sussex County’s website (http://www.sussex.nj.us).

The Sussex County Office of GIS Management (SCOGISM) will be responsible for managing the data and providing technical expertise and assistance in GIS to county and local government within Sussex County.  The SCOGISM has been providing GIS services and support to County and local government since 2003.  During this time, the County Office of GIS has assisted the Divisions of Engineering, Planning, and Health, as well as the Offices of Emergency Management, Weights and Measures, and the Office of the Prosecutor in the use of GIS and the development of numerous online Internet GIS applications.
