Piggy Bank Pageant Debuts at Second Annual Money $mart Week
The second annual Sussex County Money $mart Week will be held during the week of May 1 to 5. During Money $mart Week, dozens of seminars will be conducted by area financial professionals on a variety of financial topics including long term care insurance, retirement planning, investing, and the wise use of credit. On Monday, May 1, from 5:30 to 7 pm, the Money $mart Week Kick-Off will be held at the Sussex County Vocational School, Route 94, in Sparta Township. Light refreshments will be served and participants will play a financial Bingo game with an opportunity to win prizes.
From 5 to 7 pm on May 1, in conjunction with the Money $mart Week Kick-Off, Sussex County?s first ever Piggy Bank Pageant will be held to encourage area children to begin saving money. School-aged children and their parents are invited to join the fun. Prizes will be awarded for the top winners in each age category and every Pageant entrant will receive a small prize.
To celebrate Money $mart Week, contest entrants are encouraged to go ?Hog Wild? and create a piggy bank from materials such as milk cartons, soda bottles or any other items of their choice. Entrants can also dress-up and decorate an existing piggy bank with markers, crayons, picture cutouts, fabric, or anything they can think of. All piggy banks must be able to hold coins as savings, i.e. be hollow at least in part. They must also be created or decorated by the contest entrant (child) with very little or no adult help and may be no larger than 18 inches x 18 inches x 18 inches in size.
Only one entry per child is allowed in their appropriate age category: ages 7 and under; 8 through 12; and 13 through 17. Completed registration forms must be received by April 28th 2006 by Christine Florio. They should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, faxed to 973-579-0571, or dropped off to Christine at the Sussex County Administrative Center, One Spring Street, Newton (Division of Community Services, Second Floor).
Piggy banks must be dropped off May 1st at the Sussex County Money $mart Week kick-off at Sussex Tech between 5 and 5:30 pm. Judging by people?s choice will take place between 5:30 and 6:30 pm during the kick-off program. Entrants must take their piggybank home after the winners are announced at 6:45 pm. A total of 9 prizes will be awarded: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of the three age categories. Kick-off participants will each have one vote per age category and the decisions of the people are final.
