Mini Maker Faire for the Entire Family Scheduled at the Sussex - Wantage Branch
Release Date: August 18, 2014

Mini Maker Faire for the Entire Family Scheduled at the Sussex - Wantage Branch

On September 19, from 4 PM to 8 PM, The Sussex-Wantage Branch of the Sussex County Library System will be hosting a Mini Maker Faire sponsored by the Youth Services Department. What is a Maker Faire? A Maker Faire is an event created to celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects, and Do-It-Yourselfers of all ages. The Mini Maker Faire will be a collection of stations where patrons may try different ways to be creative and make things in new ways. Different stations will feature activities such as mini-computers, gardening, textiles, woodworking, machine dissection, and puppet making. Patrons will be able to sign-up for future programs.

A special build night project, using SUGRU, will be featured in the evening. SUGRU is a new material that can be manipulated, similar to silly putty, but dries as permanent rubber. This build night will be part of a national program sponsored by Instructables.com external link. The Sussex-Wantage Library will be one of 125 spaces across the country that will try to find a unique use for SUGRU. The space that submits the most unique use of SUGRU will receive a Nikon D5200 Digital SLR Camera and a copy of the Autodesk Product Design Suite Ultimate.

The Mini Maker Faire, which we hope will be an annual event, is part of the library's commitment for the next year to provide children's and teen programs that support the S. T. E. A. M. initiative found in schools. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S. T. E. A. M.) will be featured in the Youth Services planning for the 2013/14 school year. For more details and up-to-date programming information, go to the library's website (www.sussexcountylibrary.org external link), or call 973-948-3660 and speak with a staff member of the Youth Services Department.
