Sheriff Strada Announces Promotions

Sheriff Michael F. Strada is pleased to announce the following promotions of personnel within the Sussex County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Corrections.

Sheriff's Corrections Lieutenant Ed Nemeth has been promoted to Captain. A 24 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Captain Nemeth served as a Security Specialist in the United States Air Force for almost 10 years prior to beginning his career with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office as a Corrections Officer in 1990. In 1996, he became a member of the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT) and was promoted to Sergeant. From 1996 to 1998 he was assigned as a shift supervisor. In 1998, he was assigned to manage the Classifications, Records, and County Corrections Identification System (CCIS) for the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility. A position he maintained until 2000, when he was promoted to Lieutenant and designated as a Shift Commander. Since 2011, Captain Nemeth has served as the Commander of Jail Operations. Following this promotion, Captain Nemeth has been named as the Executive Officer of the Bureau of Corrections. Captain Nemeth holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force.

Sheriff's Corrections Sergeant John Bannon has been promoted to Lieutenant. A 18 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Lieutenant Bannon began his career with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office in 1996. In 2000, he became a member of the Sheriff's Special Operations Group (SOG). Additionally, he served as a co-coordinator of the Sheriff's Labor Assistance Program (SLAP). In 2009, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned as a shift supervisor. Following this promotion, Lieutenant Bannon has been designated as a shift commander. A graduate of the Middlesex County Police Academy County Corrections Officer Class, Lieutenant Bannon is also a dedicated member of the Police Unity Tour. Every year since 2008, Lieutenant Bannon has taken part in the Police Unity Tour, riding a bicycle from New Jersey to Washington DC to increase awareness for law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum.

Sheriff's Corrections Officer Jill Phillips has been promoted to Sergeant. A six year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Sergeant Phillips began her career with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office in 2008. Following this promotion, Sergeant Phillips has been assigned as a shift supervisor. A graduate of the Bergen County Police Academy Basic County Corrections Training Class, Sergeant Phillips also holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Criminal Justice from Centenary College.

Sheriff's Corrections Officer Thomas Mulroony has been promoted to Corporal. A 15 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Corporal Mulroony began his career with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office in 1999. Corporal Mulroony became member of the Sheriff's Special Operations Group (SOG) in 2000. Corporal Mulroony is a graduate of the Passaic County Police Academy Basic County Corrections Officer Training Class.

Sheriff's Corrections Officer Edward Kayal has been promoted to Corporal. A 15 year veteran of the Bureau of Corrections, Corporal Kayal began his career with the Sussex County Sheriff's Office in 1999. Corporal Kayal is a graduate of the Passaic County Police Academy Basic County Corrections Officer Training Class.
