Sussex County - A Great Four Season Destination

There's no place like home... there's no place like home. With gas prices soaring, discovering places closer to home is a great way to vacation. And Sussex County, New Jersey is a great place to discover. Whether you've visited before, or live here, there are probably places you haven't yet explored or events you haven't checked out. The Sussex Skylands is a four season destination boasting countless agritourism, ecotourism, recreational and heritage tourism activities (www.sussex.nj.us).

Agritourism activities and events are popular with families - check www.sussexfarmvisits.com external link for farms that are open to the public. You can pick your own fruits and vegetables, go horseback riding, tour a farm, purchase organic and specialty foods, explore a corn or sunflower maze, drop by a nursery for new plants, or stop by a local farmstand or one of our half a dozen or so farmers markets. A complete listing of Community Farmers Markets in New Jersey can be found on https://findjerseyfresh.com/ external link.

Ecotourism (ecological tourism) is popular everywhere nowadays. Being "Green" is in - and you don't even have to be Kermit! Sussex County has six state parks, one state forest, part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge and many State Wildlife Management Areas. These public lands comprise over one-third of our total land mass and offer incredible hiking (check out all of our rail trails), biking, nature viewing, fishing, hunting, photography, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and water sports opportunities - something for each season. For complete information about the NJ Division of Parks and Forestry, visit their website at www.njparksandforests.org external link. While on their website, check out the new app to help visitors plan their NJ State Park, Forest and Historic Sites visit. Additionally, the Appalachian Trail traverses our borders for many mountain miles offering incredible views and scenery most people don't associate with New Jersey. Why visit anywhere else when our great outdoors is amazing throughout the year! Save the dates for the 3rd annual Harvest Festival October 13th at the Conservatory at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

And if all of the above hasn't gotten you heading to Sussex County, then there's all the fun recreational tourism opportunities we have to offer. Some headliners include a waterpark, a zoo, our fairgrounds with ongoing events, great shopping, downhill skiing and snowboarding, antiques, top rated accommodations, delicious restaurant offerings, arts and heritage, a golf mecca and more. Detailed information on great family activities can be found at the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce website www.sussexcountychamber.org external link or by calling 973-579-1811.
