Seniors Are Invited to Attend a Free HealthEase Program "Serving Up Good Nutrition"

(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services is presenting "Serving Up Good Nutrition" in recognition of National Nutrition Month in March. National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign that is sponsored by the American Dietetic Association to promote nutrition awareness and education.

Seniors are invited to attend the FREE HealthEase initiative program, at one of four convenient locations, which includes information, fun and prizes. Upcoming presentations are scheduled at the following Nutrition Sites: the Franklin Senior Center, located at George Labance Lane on March 27, 10 a.m.; Hopatcong Civic Center, located at 42 Lakeside Boulevard on March 20, 10:30 a.m.; Liberty Towers, located at 32 Liberty Street in Newton on March 13, 10:30 a.m. and the Vernon Senior Center, located at 21 Church Street on March 6, 10:30 a.m. The program will also be presented at the Sussex County Adult Day Care, located at 55 Mill Street, in Newton on March 15 at 1:30 p.m. Lunch can be order at each site with at least a 24-hour notice prior to the presentation by contacting the Nutrition Site of choice as noted below.

The Sussex County Division of Senior Services further supports "Serving Up Good Nutrition" through the allocation of funding made available through Title III of the Older Americans Act for congregate nutrition and home delivered meals programs for seniors aged 60+. The programs are administered by Catholic Family and Community Services. The congregate nutrition program provides social and recreational activities in addition to a nutritious meal that meets 1/3 of the RDA requirement, five days a week, at four locations. Seniors may participate in the programs by contacting the site by noon the day before they wish to partake of the meal. There is no eligibility requirement. There is a suggested donation for those who can afford it.

The Home Delivered Meals program, also known as Meals on Wheels, is designed to ensure that homebound seniors have nutritious meals available to them on a daily basis. Eligibility is based on need. There is no financial eligibility requirement. There is a suggested donation for those who can afford it. For additional information please call: 973-209-0123.

The nutrition programs are just one aspect of the services provided by the Sussex County Division of Senior Services in their Mission "to enable older individuals and/ or their caregivers to choose from a coordinated system of services that enable seniors to live as independently as possible in their homes and in their communities while enjoying a dignified quality of life."
