Project Homeless Connect Release Date: December 03, 2010
Project Aims to Help Homeless in Sussex County
Sussex County will hold its annual Project Homeless Connect event on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, in conjunction with its Point in Time homeless count. Project Homeless Connect is a one-day, one-stop event in which the community comes together to help those most in need. Individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, are able to receive information on housing, emergency social service benefits, legal services, substance abuse, mental health, medical services and employment among others.
Flu shots and personal hygiene items will be offered at all sites. Haircuts will be offered at the Newton site only. All services are free and open to anyone in need in Sussex County. The Project Homeless Connect locations will be 1.) Christ Episcopal Church, 62 Main Street, Newton from 9-1 pm; 2.) Harvest House, Sussex from 9-1 and the Littell Center on Munsonhurst Road in Franklin from 9-1. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at Manna House (Newton), lunch at Harvest House (Sussex) and lunch at the Littell Center (Franklin) that day.
Guests will be asked to complete the 2011 Point in Time survey, which will be utilized to capture a snapshot of how many people are homeless in Sussex County on this date. The survey counts individuals and families that are doubled up in friends' or families' houses as well as those who are in emergency shelters, transitional housing, motels, boarding houses, and those who are dwelling outside or in abandoned buildings, etc. These surveys become valuable planning tools in applying for funding, creating new programs and modifying current ones, and developing federal & local strategies to end homelessness.
