Leaders Sought for Health Promotion Programs
(Franklin, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Seniors Services, in collaboration with Skylands RSVP Volunteer Resource Center, is offering FREE training for volunteers who are interested in leading one or more of a variety of evidence-based health promotion programs funded under Title III of the Older Americans Act, as amended. All trainings will take place at Franklin House Senior Apartments, 1 Mill Street, Franklin, NJ, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Lunch and materials are included. Potential leaders must attend all training dates for their program(s) of choice.
“A MATTER OF BALANCE: Managing Fears about Falls” volunteers lead eight session (2 hours each) workshops that offer practical strategies to reduce fear of falling, address safety issues, increase activity levels, and improve balance, flexibility, and strength through exercise. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Thursday and Friday, March 25 and 26, 2010.
“PROJECT HEALTHY BONES” volunteers lead 24 session (1 ½ hours each) weight bearing exercise and education workshops designed for anyone who has been diagnosed or is at risk for osteoporosis. This program is designed to stabilize bone density, increase strength, balance and flexibility, and build muscle mass. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Monday and Tuesday, April 12 and 13, 2010.
“MOVE TODAY” volunteers lead 12 session (1 hour each) exercise workshops that use resistance bands. This program is designed to improve flexibility, balance, stamina, muscle strength, posture, and body mechanics. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 20 and 21, 2010.
“TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH” volunteers lead six session (2 ½ hours each) goal-oriented workshops for persons and/or their caregivers who are dealing with chronic long term health conditions. This program addresses symptom management, communicating effectively with healthcare professionals, dealing with fear, anger and frustration, developing healthy habits, making daily tasks easier and more. Four-day leadership training for this program will take place on Thursdays and Fridays, May 20, 21, 27, 28, 2010.
