SENIORS INVITED TO “TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH”
(Newton, NJ) The Hampton Senior Center, One Rumsey Way, Hampton, New Jersey, is the site of an upcoming “TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH” course sponsored by the Sussex County Division of Senior Services in collaboration with NORWESCAP RSVP. The six-week course, for seniors and/or their caregivers who face the challenges of dealing with chronic conditions, is supplemented with a manual, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” which is given to each participant. This program is funded under Title III of the Older Americans Act. There is a suggested donation of $20 per participant to help defray the cost of the program. The donations will help ensure that the program will continue to be offered to all who are interested regardless of ability to pay. All donations are strictly voluntary and confidential.
Participants will meet on Fridays, at 1 p.m., from September 11 through October 16, 2009. Each week, the 2 ½ hour interactive class led by a team of Peer Leaders, who are also dealing with chronic conditions themselves or as caregivers, will assist participants in building the skills necessary to manage symptoms; communicate effectively with healthcare professionals; develop healthy lifestyles including good nutrition and exercise; alleviate fear, anger and frustration; make daily tasks easier and get more out of life.
Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. Contact the Sussex County Division of Seniors Services for additional information or to reserve your place in the class by calling us at 973-579-0555 or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
