Food Drives to Benefit Sussex County Social Services' Food Pantry
Release Date: January 08, 2009

Food drives hosted by the Double S Diner in Sussex and TJ’s Pizzeria will be held from Monday, January 12, 2009, through Saturday, January 31, 2009, to benefit Sussex County Social Services' Food Pantry.  The drives are promoted by 103.7 WNNJ and 102.3 WSUS.

102.3 WSUS is promoting the TJ’s Pizzeria drive, and anyone who drops off a bag of non-perishable items to any TJ’s Pizzeria will get a free meal (slice of pizza and a soda).  TJ’s Pizzerias are located in Franklin, Sussex, Oak Ridge, Sparta and West Milford.

103.7 WNNJ is promoting the Double S Diner drive, and anyone who drops off a bag of non-perishable items there will get a free breakfast (2 eggs, hash browns and toast).

Suggested food donations include non-perishable milk, juice, tuna, meals in a can (spaghetti-o’s, stew, etc.), soup, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, crackers, cereal, macaroni and cheese, pasta and sauce.   Personal items such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc. are always needed as well.

Thousands of Sussex County residents seek help from the Social Service’s Office each year.  This year, Social Services has had a particularly hard time keeping the Food Pantry’s shelves stocked.  The Social Service’s Food Pantry operates primarily on donations.  Donations to the Double S Diner in Sussex and TJ’s Pizzeria Food Drives will help to feed our families, home-bound and individuals who would go hungry without this assistance.

If anyone is in need of food for themselves or their family, they can stop by the Division of Social Services, 83 Spring Street, Newton on Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary.   Food donations are accepted during these hours or special arrangements can be made for after hour donations by calling 973-383-3600.
