The Sussex County Division of Senior Services is presenting “Serving Up Good Nutrition” in recognition of National Nutrition Month in March.   Seniors are invited to attend the FREE HealthEase initiative that includes information, lunch, fun and prizes.   Upcoming presentations are scheduled as follows:    

    Franklin Senior Center on March 4                10am – 12:30pm

    Hopatcong Civic Center on March 24             10am – 12:30pm
    Liberty Towers in Newton on March 27           10am – 12:30pm

    Vernon Senior Center on March 18                 10:30am -1:00pm

While the program is FREE, registration is required.  Call 973-579-0555 for additional information or to register.

The Sussex County Division of Senior Services further supports “Serving Up Good Nutrition” through the allocation of funding made available through Title III of the Older Americans Act for congregate nutrition and home delivered meals programs for seniors aged 60+.  The programs are administered by Catholic Family and Community Services.  The “Golden Lunch Bunch” program provides social and recreational activities in addition to a nutritious meal that meets 1/3 of the RDA requirement, five days a week at four locations.  Seniors may participate in the programs by contacting the site by noon the day before they wish to partake of the meal.  There is no eligibility requirement.  There is a suggested donation for those who can afford it.  Payment is confidential.  Seniors may contact the sponsoring sites as follows:

The Home Delivered Meals program, also known as Meals on Wheels, is designed to ensure that homebound seniors have nutritious meals available to them on a daily basis. Eligibility is based on need.  There is no financial eligibility requirement.  There is a suggested donation for those who can afford it.  For additional information please call:  973-209-0123.

The nutrition programs are just one aspect of the services provided by the Sussex County Division of Senior Services in their Mission “to enable older individuals and/ or their caregivers to choose from a coordinated system of services that enable seniors to live as independently as possible in their homes and in their communities while enjoying a dignified quality of life.”  For more information about services available for seniors and caregivers, call 973 – 579-0555.
