September is
Emergency Preparedness Month!

It's September, and now that you are preparing to send your children back to school, you should also remember to prepare yourself in case of an emergency. It is Emergency Preparedness Month and as the summer comes to a close, now is a great time to learn how to become better prepared for a public health emergency or disaster. The first step in preparedness is to create a stockpile supply of items, consisting of at least a three-day supply of bottled water, non-perishable foods and essential medications set aside for each member of your family and your pets. As always, don't forget to check the batteries in your smoke alarms! There are several ways that you can learn how to become better prepared and get involved within your community.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. For more information, visit the Sussex County CERT website. Click here to Read the article
